• Record the police interaction- either audio or video
  • Be polite
  • Be respectful
  • Keep hands visible
  • Ask to leave often (not asking means you are voluntarily staying)
  • Ask for cause of stop (officer must be able to state what he saw that made him stop you)
  • Ask if the officer is ordering or requesting you to do something (a police request is not an order, so make sure you ask)
  • Keep items that might draw attention out of plain sight (prescription bottles, medicine, hookahs, rolling papers, measuring scales, ziplock bags, firearms, weapons, etc.)

  • Lie or give false documents or false names
  • Give permission to search without fully reading a warrant
